Rules

2022 King Kat Rules and Regulations

  1. In case of extreme water/weather conditions King Kat reserves the right to postpone, reschedule, or cancel this event with the return of entry fees by mail.
  2. Refunds shall only be made in a life-threatening emergency or death in the family. Entry fees may be moved and credited to another event with 2 full weeks' notice and payment of $25.00 Transfer fee. (NO TRANSFER OR REFUND WITHIN 14 DAYS OF EVENT FOR ANY REASON - NO EXCEPTIONS)
  3. Teams must comply with state, local, and federal fishing and boating regulations, including the use of PFDs and kill switches. Fishing and boating licenses are the responsibility of team members
  4. No alcoholic beverages or illegal substances are allowed on board or used during tournament hours.
  5. This is a team event. The team may consist of up to three persons. A fourth person can be added but must be under the age of 16.
  6. Late registration will be held the day before competition at a specified location from 5-6 pm. Captains Meeting will follow starting at 6 pm. Mandatory:  Each team must have a registered angler present. There are no late registrations at the captain meeting for the Cabelas King Kat Classic Tournament. Anglers must pre-register for this event by calling Cabelas King Kat.  
  7. All live wells should employ electric fresh water circulating pump and include proper aeration. Oxygen use is encouraged but not mandatory. Tournament director will have final say if the live well is adequate for the event.
  8. There will be no meeting or late registration the morning of the event.
  9. Fishing hours for events shall be 6:30 AM until 3:00 PM unless changed at the captain 's meeting.
  10. Boats must be off the water by 4pm the day prior to tournaments. 
  11. Trailering will be allowed to any public boat ramp within tournament boundaries. A public boat ramp is defined as any boat ramp that's available to the public regardless if a fee is required. Teams may launch at 5 am.
  12. All anglers must be in the weigh-in line by 4:00 PM, no exceptions
  13. Six (6) rods maximum in use by the team unless state law is less.
  14. The use of mobile communication devices such as cellular phones, marine radios, etc. to communicate fishing information during tournament hours is prohibited.
  15. Teams must compete from a boat and remain in the boat during competition. If an angler needs to exit the boat for any reason, all fishing must stop until all anglers are back in the boat. All team members must stay together through the entirety of the event.
  16. Fishing within 50 yards of a marina gas pump or within 50 yards of a competitor's boat that is considered fishing is prohibited. Fishing is defined as an anchor rope or fishing lines in the water.
  17. All fish must be caught by rod and reel only. No catfish may be taken from a hoop net, box, trot, jug, or limb line.
  18. Any legal commercial or natural bait will be allowed. No fishing known chum holes.
  19. 3 fish limit per team. Length limits are determined by state law. All fish to be weighed in must be alive. If there are more than 3 fish in the live well, it will result in disqualification.
  20. Blue Cat, Channel Cat, or Flathead Cat may be weighed in.
  21. Ties will be decided by the team with the largest fish. If both teams largest fish was not documented, a coin flip will break the tie.  
  22. This is a catch and release tournament. All fish must be alive at the time of weigh-in. Dead fish will not be allowed and will disqualify your team if presented at  weigh-in.

  23. Only 3 fish are allowed in weigh in line and at weigh in station.  All culling must be done on the lake prior to weigh in line.  Over 3 fish in live well at weigh in will be a disqualification of the team. 

  24. Handling fish with care is a priority. Dropping fish is discouraged and placing fish into totes must be completed with care. No throwing or mishandling will be tolerated.

  25. The use of or display of any tobacco products in weigh-in line, on stage or during awards ceremonies is prohibited.
  26. Anglers cannot be back on tournament waters, after Day 1 weigh in at a two-day event, until Day 2 competition begins.
  27. Any protest must be made in writing to a tournament director within 30 minutes following the end of the official weigh-in. A protest must state the rule number(s) broken.
  28. Any team having a member who fails or refuses to take a polygraph test or whose condition does not permit administration of a test because of contestant's use of alcohol or drugs will be disqualified and that team will not be allowed to participate in any future King Kat events.  Any participating angler could be required to take a lie dector test.   
  29. Unsportsmanlike conduct at the event or on any social media platform during or after the event may be grounds for disqualification if circumstances require. Decision of a tournament director will be final.
  30. All tournaments will have boundaries and will be defined in each tournament brochure & website.
  31. Membership in King Kat Association is required to participate in Cabela's King Kat Tournaments.
  32. In case of a tie for a qualifying position for the Classic, all teams tied will qualify for the Classic. 

How to Qualify for the King Kat Classic

All captains must qualify, and any co-anglers must be a KK member
Several ways exist for anglers to qualify to the Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's King Kat Classic...

  • Finish in the top 5 at any regular season event
  • The top 50 points teams
  • Enter a minimum of 5 events
  • Finish in the top 3 of an ACA Alliance tournament or an affiliate club event and fish at least 1 King Kat event.
    (This will be up to the affiliate club director to submit the proper paperwork)
